A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
