Aaron Rai Clinches the Abu Dhabi Title in Thrilling Playoff Showdown Versus Tommy Fleetwood
The 30-year-old golfer displayed remarkable nerve to secure the prestigious Abu Dhabi title on the final day, defeating his compatriot in a tense playoff after a topsy-turvy final round of competition.
The Englishman sank a decisive birdie from around eight foot to seal the win, repeating his only previous tournament success at the 2020 Scottish Open, which was also a play-off victory against Fleetwood.
Sunday's Play Drama
Rai entered the final round with a single stroke advantage over fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood and Danish golfer Nicolai Højgaard. He finished with a total score of twenty-under after a up-and-down, 67 closing round that included seven birdies and a pair of bogeys.
The challenger edged one shot ahead with two holes to play after a birdie on the sixteenth, but his rival tied it up again on the 17th and then failed to convert a 10-foot birdie putt to win outright on the final hole.
Play-Off Climax
That led to a play-off at Yas Links where the eventual winner prevailed to claim the title and $1.5 million (ÂŁ1.13 million) in winnings.

The Danish golfer fired six birdies of his as well, but his hopes of topping the leaderboard were dented by a bogey on the twelfth. English golfer Richard Mansell hit an superb last round 63 to finish in a tie for fifth place with Australian Daniel Hillier.
