Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.

It said wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
