Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs About Manager Chris Wilder
The striker is now a member of Sheffield United only seven months following instigating insulting songs directed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the Championship club in difficulty until January. His seven-year time with Leeds concluded through agreement this past summer.
One of the player's final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading insulting songs regarding Wilder amid the club’s promotion party in April. Now, the one-cap England international will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to pull the team he loves out of the drop zone.
Past Conflict Involving Bamford & Wilder
Both men had history prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight last season and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation and Moving Forward
Everything seems to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to resurrect his career.
The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder said back then: “Spoke with Pat recently and I’ve no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a half-hour chat together and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Recent Career Struggles
The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
