Swedish Selection Announcement: Isak Named While Gyokeres Omitted
The striker signed with the Gunners after leaving Sporting Lisbon in July
Gunners forward Viktor Gyokeres fails to make the cut in the new manager's initial Swedish national team selection, whereas Reds striker Alexander Isak secured a place
The Arsenal forward is due for further assessments in the coming days amid fears he suffered a muscle problem during the Gunners's English top flight victory against the Clarets last weekend
The 27-year-old was absent from Arsenal' European victory against the Czech side on Tuesday
Isak Makes Comeback
Isak, who has been sidelined since 22 October owing to a groin problem, has been chosen for World Cup qualifying fixtures against Switzerland (15 November) and Slovenia (November 18th)
Other England-based Inclusions
- Spurs playmaker Lucas Bergvall, who is recovering after a head knock
- Magpies winger the Swedish international
These players were included in Potter's England-based contingent named by former multiple English clubs boss Graham Potter
The New Manager's Role
Potter was appointed the Swedish federation originally temporarily in late October, under four weeks following he was dismissed by the Hammers
Former manager the Danish coach was sacked following Sweden's defeat against the Kosovan team in mid-October, a result which rendered direct progression in their World Cup group out of reach
Current Situation
The Swedish team find themselves last place in Group B having just one point in their opening four games
Even if they don't manage to finish second, they could still take part in the World Cup play-offs because of their performance in the most recent Nations League
