The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four separate personas, all possessing their own fears and drives. These souls can seize control at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action takes place within a creepy medical facility, though other scenes depict the protagonist navigating a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these souls will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's fears become amplified and assault the girl one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by orderlies who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms growing from their necks should be. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. But, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on platforms.
