The Prince of Wales Will Participate in UN Climate Conference in South America
The Prince of Wales will represent the COP30 climate summit in Brazil next month, according to the royal household.
The father and son duo appeared together on Thursday evening at a gathering leading up to the climate summit, which is scheduled to take place in the northern Brazilian city of Belém.
The King and Prince were present at the scientific institution event, marking an unusual joint appearance at a pre-COP30 gathering arranged together with the UK government.
Climate Leadership Dedication
King Charles has been a longstanding advocate of environmental conservation - and Prince William has taken on the baton, with his own climate innovation awards, which will be held in Brazil preceding the climate conference.
Palace insiders have described William's involvement at the next COP as stepping up an important role in "climate diplomacy".
Recent Engagements
The monarch and his heir, arriving together in the state Bentley, were welcomed participants featuring conservation experts, scientists, environmental activists, foreign representatives and politicians.
This engagement included speaking alongside French leader Macron of France and other world leaders at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum in Monaco in recent months.
Earthshot Awards Link
The COP30 summit will coincide with the the royal's Earthshot environmental awards, which will finish in the Brazilian city the day before he attends the climate conference on November 6th.
Last week the prince described the award contenders as "contemporary champions".
Monarch's Environmental Record
The monarch has been a prominent presence at previous climate summits, delivering the inaugural speech in the United Arab Emirates for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the statement: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".
"Throughout my life I've dedicated a large proportion of my life trying to raise awareness about the existential threats challenging our world over planetary heating, global temperature increases and ecological decline," the King told participants.
