The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
